This is a photograph of the Death Valley desert floor. The rains in the past have caused these "canals" to form on the sand. Then the sand dries due to the extreme heat. I took this image up close to make it an abstract, so you can't tell how big the canals are. The image looks as if it could have been taken from an airplane, and the cracks are dried river beds.
