Twisted Rocks, Big Sur, CA

This is one of my favorite images. I was eating lunch at a restaurant along the Pacific Coast Highway and I saw that there was a path in back of the restaurant down to some very ragged rocks along the shore below. It was quite difficult to walk aong the coast with my 4x5 camera on its tripod slung over my shoulder, with all the rocks on the beach. I came upon this particular spot and saw this "flame-like" rock jutting out of the water. Then I noticed the distant rocks seemingly marching on to the shore. I used a small aperature which gave me more depth of field, to get the distant rocks in better focus, as well as softening and lightening the water as the waves came in and out during the exposure.
