This is the story of why I have photographed the Netherlands many times.  In 1971 I traveled to Europe with college friends after I graduated from City College of New York. My mom asked me to bring back some Delft Blue pottery, as she was a collector. So, when I was in Holland on my trip I asked the group (four of us) if we could drive to Delft. There I met a girl at a 16th century discotheque who later became my wife (that’s another story). I wound up staying in Delft for two years. So, eventually I brought back both the pottery my mother wanted as well as a daughter-in-law!
 
After I became an avid photographer (a couple of years later), and went back to Holland to visit my wife’s family, I would find the places in Holland that are of interest for a landscape photographer. This is not easy, as Holland does not have a lot of forests, and almost no mountains and certainly no waterfalls. But there is one area in central Netherlands called the Hoge Veluwe (High Valley) that has forests, sand dunes and lakes. This park was once a wealthy landowners private grounds, but has become a national park, available to all. So I have photographed this park several times and have several images from there.
 
Of course, Holland is best known for its canals, windmills and quaint architecture, and I have tried to photograph that as well, but with a landscape photographer’s eye. I have included three images of Delft to show why I fell in love with the country, as well as the people!
